on saturday, joe and hilary treated us to a picnic of fish and chips and a walk along the beach in wynnum. we took woof along and i managed to snap this photo of him with his head hanging out the car window. it was a lovely day, nice weather, delicious food. hilary thought it would be a good idea to get a big noon meal in our bellies since we were going to carry in a meal of sandwiches at the footie.
that evening we went to the sunshine coast to watch a match of australian rules football. i was so excited. AFL is a combination of soccer, rugby and american football. the boys don't wear any padding and they are flying all over the place tackling and jumping and sliding. it is one of my favorite sports to watch on television. in fact, i insisted we come to australia a month later so that we would be able to catch a game. needless to say, i had built this experience up pretty abnoxiously in my head. so, it would have to be a pretty amazing game to meet my expectations. unfortunately, it was not.
however, it was still amazing to see live. the stadium was also a bit smaller, so the seats were great. the weather was lovely and cool too. so, i can't complain. i just wish that the Brisbane Lions wouldn't have gotten flogged by the North Melbourne Kangaroos, but what can you do? it was still a great experience!
