lyric's project

so, i am a huge fan of great music, but even moreso of lyrics that are amazing and touching and witty. subtle poetry and imagery nestled within a catchy hook or swimming inside a peaceful melody is one of the greatest pleasures in life. i am definately a lyric-listener. i have a friend who doesn't pay attention, so i promised i would write down some of my favorite snippets and email them off to her. then i got to thinking it might be fun to post some too. so i was working on volume 1 (i'm doing 10 songs per volume) tonight. so, thought i would post a favorite from ani diFranco.

"...I am watching your chest rise and fall,
like the tides of my life and the rest of it all,
Your bones have been my bedframe and
your flesh has been my pillow.
I have been waiting for sleep
to offer up the deep with both hands..."
-ani diFranco: both hands

marty's also a lyrics listener - here's some that keep spinning around my noggin:

this is how it works
you peer inside yourself
you take the things you like
and try to love the things you took
and then you take that love you made
and stick it into some--
someone else's heart
pumping someone else's blood
and walking arm in arm
you hope it don't get harmed
but even if it does
you'll just do it all again
