so, really what else is there to blog about? i'm sure by now most of you have heard that the 35w freeway bridge in minneapolis tumbled into the mississippi river around 6pm last night. so far there isn't any information on the cause. i won't rehash everything that has been said because everyone is fully capable of reading about it on cnn.com or whatever.
anyway, it's a thing that shakes your perverbial foundation when you have physically driven on that very bridge. i can't imagine how the people who drive that route to work every day or ones who had just crossed it, or ones who were late coming home or left early must be feeling. and of course, people who were stuck on the bridge or collapsed with it and their families. what a horrible, horrible tragedy!
i found out about the whole thing when a close friend from back home called to make sure lisa and i weren't in the cities (thanks, stace'), as we started making calls to friends who live up there, i was happy to learn everyone is ok. so that is a huge blessing.
but as we finally sat down to a late supper, this event sparked a conversation about how major catastrophes and tragedies are becoming so much more prevalent. we considered whether or not the earth has reached her breaking point and these incidents are occurring as a reaction to over population. it's a curious concept and one that is disconcerting as someone who is about to become a parent.
anyway, at rice-n-grass we'd like to send out healing thoughts and prayers to all the lives that this crazy bridge collapse will affect.
also, we'd like to send some love and thanks to our new york house guests who cooked a delicious spinach, goat cheese and leek pie paired with a lovely salad. it was one of the best meals i've enjoyed in a long time. thanks, guys!!
