i think this snapshot captures my experience at byron bay perfectly. the day ended up throwing us some pretty crappy weather which was a bummer. when we left brisbane is was sunny and gorgeous, breezy and about 85 degrees. by the time we got to byron bay it became increasingly obvious that one of us should have bothered to check the weather reports. anyway, the rain managed to muddy up the festival grounds and make a huge mess. luckily all the stages had huge tents, so that was good.
all of us festival goers discovered that we are definately too old for these things. we just can't handle the crowds and the drinking and the pot smoking. i think i was very close to getting a contact buzz after spending 3 hours in a tent. i actually saw half a dozen joints being lit and burned down right before my eyes. crazy.
but, aside from all of that. the food was really good. i had one of the best fish tacos that i have ever tasted. we also got to enjoy some really great music. we happened on to a south african folk singer and he was really, really enjoyable. then later in the evening we saw the waifs who are always amazing live. and we also got to see missy higgins for the first time live. she was also great. then, after she finished around 7:30 the four of us agreed that we had had enough with the weather and the crowds, so we called it a day. we skipped ben harper after all. but generally speaking it was a good experience.
not much else to report. we are off to the eumundi markets tomorrow morning to look for some pressies and then we hit the australian zoo after that. hopefully i can post some better photos then.
