screw starbucks

years ago i tried a starbuck's pre-made double shot. i fell instantly in love. it's espresso and cream... after reading the ingredients a fair amount of sugar too. anyway, they are ridiculously expensive. but on roadtrips i would always treat myself or have one in the fridge for an emergency pick-me-up in the mornings. in fact i think there is one right now. i should check when it outdates and drink it. hmmm.

anyway, a few months ago my lovely wife ordered me a two shot espresso maker. and old school one that you put on the burner of the stove and steam actually brews it up. i thought it was great and almost immediately graduated to a 6-shot pot. (incidently, my wife suggested the 2 shot one would be too small and was i sure i didn't want one a bit bigger.....she was right, i was wrong). so now along with my flat whites i have been trying to work out a recipe for the starbuck's double shot drink. i think i have done it. and the cost per drink must be under a $1 for sure. maybe i'll try to work out the actual cost just for fun. but i digress. here is my recipe. (now i'm not so jaded to think that enough people read this blog that a starbuck's executive might see this and feel like they are legally obliged to something or that i am have crossed some proprietary boundaries or something BUT....)

starbuck's as a company or entity does not endorse this recipe nor have they been consulted or involved in it's development. nor does this blog reflect any views of starbuck's. it is an independent publication reflecting only the opinions of the author! the photo was borrowed from the website www.starbucks.com and is a registered brand.

Amy's personal recipe for a cold espresso drink that somewhat resembles a delicous and over-priced commercial drink made by a popular coffee chain:

1 shot espresso (i brew it and keep it in the fridge)
1 shot heavy whipping cream
1 shot milk
sugar or sweetner to taste

and there you have it. i use fair-trade organic espresso. i like the taste of kemps cream best, but have tried many others (haven't found an organic one yet and that is naughty), i use 1% organic milk. 1 packet of splenda does the trick for sweetness.

this morning i mixed a triple shotter.... it was awesome and probably too much, but still good. i should maybe stick to a double shot. he he he. i'll have to work on making a lower calorie drink with the same drinking pleasure, but one bridge at a time, folks.

p.s. stop flooding me with requests to do a guest blog, people... i'll never get you all published..... please note dripping sarcasm.
