so, for some reason my wifey doesn't like to go on picnics. i guess if i got everything ready and said let's go here and have a picnic she would. i think i just need some excitement as incentive. who knows?
anyway, when we were up in canada, we decided to have a picnic on the shore of lake ontario (leeser thought of it) and we ended up with what i think might be my favorite picnic menu:
crusty flavored baguettes (i.e. onion-dill or olive-oil and rosemary)
aged white cheddar cheese
baba gannouj or hummus
blue cheese stuffed large spanish olives
try it out some time. all of these things are easily packed, you don't need to worry too much about spoilage and all you need is a knife to cut the cheese and maybe to spread the spreads. everything is so tastey and rich my mouth is just watering thinking about it. we had this little menu for lunch this weekend, so that's what got me typing.
on friday we enjoyed some good music and food at the acoustic cafe with our pal, jeanne. the music ended up being pretty enjoyable too. it was a guy called tom feldman, i think. he was blue-grass and old country rock. not a style i would normally chose, but it sounded good. he had a drummer and upright bass player along to support.
saturday brought a bar costume party and a few too many shots and beers. but it ended up being ok. i was a mustard bottle and leeser was ketchup.
that's about all i know. have a great halloween!
